Working as a successful chef, restaurateur and author, Jonathan Waxman has graced such prestigious kitchens as Chez Panisse in Berkeley and Michael's in Los Angeles. Waxman went on to open his own restaurant in New York City — Jams, described by the NY Times as 'a culinary comet', as well as the famed Washington Park. Today, Waxman is the chef and owner of Barbuto in Manhattan's West Village. His first cookbook, A Great American Cook, was published in 2007 and his second book, 'Italian My Way', was released in April of 2011.
He participated in two seasons of Top Chef Masters on Bravo, where he earned the nickname 'Obi Wan Kenobi' and Jonathan Gold of the LA Times has referred to Jonathan as 'the Eric Clapton of chefs'. Giving back is important to Waxman and he works closely with many charities including City Meals on Wheels and Alex's Lemonade Stand. He currently lives in Manhattan with his wife and three children.
Barbuto continues to be a favorite for both locals and visitors, who enjoy the restaurant's casual sophistication and neighborhood feel. The restaurant occupies an airy garage space on the ground floor of Industria Superstudios on Washington Street, between Jane and West 12th Streets. With garage doors that can be opened and closed, guests can enjoy a sidewalk table in the warm months. The simple décor and open kitchen add to the restaurant's warm and inviting feel.
Street parking is available nearby, and there is also a parking facility on Jane St. closer to the West Side Highway.
Experience Barbuto from within the intimate atmosphere of the Private Dining Room, which can accommodate up to 10 guests. Barbuto's private dining room is perfect for any occasion, whether it's a business function or a celebration with family and friends.
Barbuto also features a Chef's Table located in the kitchen, where up to 14 guests can enjoy a unique and memorable experience while watching the chefs in action. At both the Private Dining room and Chef's Table, guests are served a selection of three to four courses representing the menu's best seasonal dishes, which are served family style. In addition Barbuto's Wine Director can suggest wine pairings to complement each course.
Two seatings are available each evening, at 6:30 and at 9:30pm, for both the Private Dining Room and Chef's Table. The menu is $85 per person. Guests can also reserve each table for the entire evening for $170 per person. Pricing does not include beverages, gratuity or tax.
